Sensor Networks

Earthquake Monitoring

The development of sensor networks for quick and accurate detection of natural and human-induced disasters which could, at any time, disrupt social safety and peace is quite desirable. In our research, we construct wireless sensor networks by utilizing dozens of sensor nodes per floor and develop fundamental technologies to monitor actual earthquake data. Our research aims at 1) monitoring building structural integrity by measuring the spatial distortion of a room and 2) contributing measured data to future earthquake engineering. In particular, we are investigating the time constant and frequency response of acceleration sensors, task management mechanism for instantaneous detection of earthquake, and synchronization mechanism for accurate data collection.
